The Emerson Quartet is celebrated for an unparalleled list of achievements over 3 decades: 30 acclaimed recordings with Deutsche Grammophon since 1987, 9 Grammy Awards (including 2 Best Classical Album, an unprecedented honour for a chamber music group), 3 Gramophone Awards and the coveted Avery Fisher Prize. The Quartet performs worldwide and is renowned for its performances and recordings of the complete cycles of the Beethoven, Bartók, Mendelssohn and Shostakovich string quartets. st century music. It continues its residency at the Smithsonian Institution, marking its 30
th sold-out season and at Stony Brook University, where it has served as Quartet-in-Residence since 2002. It coaches chamber music, gives master classes and provides instrumental instruction. The violinists alternate in the first chair position, and the ensemble performs while standing.
