Born in Beijing in 1987, Yuja Wang began studying piano at age 6, with her earliest public performances taking place in China, Australia and Germany, and went on to study at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing under Ling Yuan and Zhou Guangren. Following 3 years (1999-2001) at Calgary’s Mount Royal College Morningside Music summer programme, Ms. Wang moved to Canada to study at the College’s Conservatory. In 2002, at age 15, she won Aspen Music Festival’s Concerto Competition and moved to the U.S. to study with Gary Graffman at Curtis, graduating in 2008. Winning the Gilmore Young Artist Award in 2006, she was awarded an Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2010. Known for her prodigious technique and mature artistry, Yuja Wang performs in recital and with top symphonies in North America, Europe and Asia. An exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist, she won the 2009 Classic Gramophone Award’s Young Artist of the Year for her debut recording and her second recording was selected by Gramophone Magazine as the July 2010 Recording of the Month.
