Matthias Gredler - cello
Founded in 1988 by violinist Wolfgang Redik, cellist Marcus Trefny, and pianist Stefan Mendl, this ensemble, described as one of the world’s foremost piano trios, studied with many of the leaders in the field. In 2001, cellist Matthias Gredler joined the group, known for its silken homogeneous sound and its “telepathic gifts of communication”. The ensemble performs worId-wide, appearing annually at the Concertgebouw and Wigmore Hall, and in its own series at the Wiener Musikverein. Festival appearances include Salzburg, Schubertiade Feldkirch and the Casals Festival, a.o. Its recordings have received highest critical acclaim. The Haydn CD was Editor’s Choice for Gramophone, and the Shostakovich/Schnittke and Mozart CDs were named Classic CD choice. Most recently BBC Music Magazine declared its volumes I and II of Schubert recordings “Benchmark Recordings”. Wolfgang Redik plays a 1771 J.B.
