Florestan Trio | Mar. 16, 2008 |
Susan Tomes - piano
Anthony Marwood - violin
Richard Lester - cello
The Florestan Trio is one of the world’s leading piano trios in the great European tradition of chamber music playing. All three members were taught by Sandor Végh, and in 2000 the Trio received Britain’s Royal Philharmonic Society Award for chamber music – the first time the award was given to a piano trio. The Trio’s recordings on the Hyperion label have all been nominated for Gramophone Awards, their disc of the first two trios by Schumann won the 1999 Gramophone Award, and its recording of the complete Beethoven piano trios received superlatives from the critics. The Trio is a regular guest at all the UK’s major festivals and performs frequently in London’s principle concert halls, as well as touring Europe, South America, Australia, New Zealand, U.S. It has had several works specially composed for it, and its members have founded the Florestan Trust to develop public awareness of music through concerts, educational work, and the commission of new works.
