Fauré Quartett | Oct. 26, 2008 |
Erika Geldsetzer - violin Sascha Frömbling - viola
Dirk Mommertz - piano Konstantin Heidrich - cello
Formed in 1995 at the Karlsruhe Conservatory of Music, the quartet chose the name of the composer Gabriel Fauré out of affection for his two piano quartets. It studied with the Alban Berg Quartett in Cologne for 4 years as well as with Wolfgang Jahn, Misha Katz, Mikhail Bezverkhny and Eduardo Hubert. Its rapid rise to the status of an exceptional piano quartet was recognized by Deutsche Grammophon’s selection of the ensemble to record the two Mozart piano quartets for the 250th anniversary of his birthday in 2006. A regular performer at major international venues such as Wigmore Hall and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and at renowned festivals, the quartet regularly tours throughout Europe, North and South America and Mexico. Quartet in Residence at the Musik-hochschule Karlsruhe since 2004 - an honour last awarded to an ensemble 30 years ago - the Fauré has recorded works by Schumann, Fauré, Dvořák, Josef Suk and Theodor Kirchner, among others, on the ARS MUSICI label.
