Peter Winograd - violin Daniel Avshalomov - viola
Laurie Carney - violin Wolfram Koessel - cello
Founded in 1974 when the original members were still students at the Juilliard School, the Quartet won both the Coleman Competition and the Naumburg Award in the same year. Internationally renowned, the Quartet has appeared in major concert halls around the world and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this season. Its extensive discography has won critical acclaim. The Quartet holds a number of notable residencies and has given numerous premieres. Individually, the members devote additional time outside the quartet’s active performance and teaching schedule to solo appearances, recitals and master classes. Violinist Peter Winograd joined the Quartet in 1990 and plays a violin made by Giovanni Maria del Bussetto. Laurie Carney, violin, a founding member of the Quartet, also performs duo recitals with her husband William Grubb. Violist Daniel Avshalomov plays an instrument made by Andrea Amati, and cellist Wolfram Koessel, the most recent member of the quartet, is a graduate of the Mannes College of Music.
