Founded in 2013, Quatuor Arod skyrocketed to international attention when it won the coveted First Prize at the 2016 ARD International Music Competition in Munich and went on to serve as a BBC New Generation Artist from 2017 to 2019. Previously, the quartet had taken First Prize at the Carl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition in Copenhagen in 2015 and at the FNAPEC European Competition (Paris) in 2014. Additional honours include being named HSBC Laureate of the Festival d’Aix Academy (2016), and an ECHO Rising Star (2018–2019). The quartet now performs more than eighty concerts a season at such prestigious venues as the Philharmonie in Paris, Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, and also at the Verbier Festival. The ensemble takes its name from Legolas’ horse in Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. (In Tolkien’s mythic Rohirric language, Arod means “swift.”) Since 2017, Quatuor Arod has recorded exclusively for Erato Warner Classics. Their debut Mendelssohn CD was followed in 2019 by a conceptually rich second album centred around Mathilde Zemlinsky in works by Schoenberg, Zemlinsky, and Webern, earning them the 2020 Edison Klassiek Award. In 2020, they released a Schubert program (including the Death and the Maiden quartet) that also received widespread critical praise. LMMC debut.
